How to Help
Our focus is the sustainability of the Running Across Borders Training Camp in Addis Ababa and you can play a vital role in this objective.  Our success to date has been largely through word of mouth, therefore you can help by simply raising awareness of Running Across Borders to your friends. If you are running a marathon, half marathon, 10km or 5km race or even climbing a mountain or doing a cycle race why not consider entering and raising funds on behalf of Running Across Borders. For competitive athletes who think that charity running is for joggers consider giving a portion of your prize winnings to RAB as Garrett did at his last marathon in Loch Ness, Scotland. For the more adventurous why not organize a race to sponsor an organization like RAB, that uses sport itself to promote social development in developing countries.

Therefore here are several ways you can get involved

1) Train in Ethiopia

Projects like ours are all about mutually beneficial exchanges. The East Africans need our help with economic opportunities, but we also need their help in raising the competitive standards of our runners! Come and visit Ethiopia to experience optimal altitude, nutrition, training surfaces and training partners and make a contribution in return for your experience. To find out more Click here.

2) Donate

You can be a part of the Running Across Borders Sponsor-an-Athlete Programmme.  To find out more click here.

You can consider sponsoring the Running Across Borders Head Coach. To find out more click here.

You can consider supporting our Education Programme through the hiring of our qualified English teacher.  To find out more click here.

10 USD pays for one athlete to pursue developmental employment within the training camp: examples of positions include administrative assistant, sports tourism associate, or social development outreach worker.  This funding covers their Internet, printing, and photocopying costs.

20 USD pays for one athlete to attend a national-level competition in Ethiopia, a critical step in advancing his/her athletic career.

45 USD buys a mattress so another athlete can join the camp.

450 USD pays for a full month of rent for the entire facility housing at least  10-15 athletes.

All funds go directly to supporting athletes and our work in the training camp.

3) Organize a Road Race: Running broadcaster Tony Reavis has pointed out how, ironically, few charities that benefit from road races actually have anything to do with running. Why not organize a race to sponsor an organization like RAB that uses running itself to promote social development in developing countries?

4) Run for RAB: If you are running a marathon consider entering and raising funds on behalf of RAB. And for competitive athletes who think that charity running is for joggers: consider giving a portion of your prize winnings to RAB as Co-Director Garrett Ash did in his last marathon!

5) Raise awareness: In these times of financial crisis individuals or even companies are not able to make substantial donations. But if we mobilize large numbers of people then even small amounts can add up to make a big difference. Remember that times are even tougher in Ethiopia!

To raise awareness, you can:

-Send emails to your friends with a link to RAB's homepage

-Post our logo and link on your own website

-Post RAB leaflets  at running  stores, running clubs, book clubs, churches and community organizations, or  university societies.

-Attend events related to athletics or international development, and mention RAB to prominent speakers or audience members.

"If I can use running to have a greater impact to make lasting change around the world--if I can do it better through running than any other way--then that's definitely something I want to keep working toward."
