About: I grew up in a village near Asella, which is in the Arsi Zone of the Oromea Region. My parents however are from the Amhara Region and so growing up I learned Amharic as my native language. I speak a little bit of Oromefa because we learned it in school but it’s not my mother tongue like it is for most of the other athletes in the training camp from the Arsi Zone. In my family I have seven brothers and three sisters.  One of my older sisters is a famous athlete; she left Arsi and came to Addis Ababa a few years ago. She lives in a small house along Sulutaa Road which is near the top of Entoto Mountain just north of the city limits. Two years ago she finished in the top three in the famous Great Ethiopian Run 10km Road Race. Back in Asella I heard about her success and it inspired me to carry on with my own training. She still inspires me and I feel good when we are out training in Sulutaa and she sees me running with the group while Coach Melaku watches us.
