Education
Running Across Borders  arranges educational opportunities for the runners. Athletes have the chance to learn English as a Second Language (ESL) through the teaching provided by Tinbit Amare, a qualified Ethiopian English Teacher.

Furthermore, for athletes of appropriate age and academic qualifications, we will help facilitate and support their pursuit of higher education within Ethiopia/Kenya and, for those most academically gifted, seek to provide educational opportunities in foreign countries.

These arrangements will not be funded by RAB but through scholarships at participating universities on the basis of the athletes' academic and athletic merits; we will help by making links between the athletes and the universities.

**SPONSOR THE TRAINING CAMP ENGLISH TEACHER AND SUPERVISOR**

FOR 150 USD/MONTH YOU CAN FACILITATE ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING FOR OUR ATHLETES. A CHANCE FOR AN INDIVIDUAL OR ORGANIZATION TO PROMOTE THE WORLDWIDE INTEGRATION OF ATHLETICS AND EDUCATION
In our training camp, we have hired a qualified English as Second Language (ESL) teacher. The teacher  cooperates with Coach Melaku providing essential female representation in the leadership of the camp. Presently the athletes recieve 10 hours per week of English as Second Language (ESL) lessons.

Initially, however, ESL is an essential prerequisite for all such higher training. Even athletes who develop into full-time professional runners need to know English, to communicate over logistic and financial matters revolving around international competitions. For the athletes ultimately pursuing other forms of employment, English communication is essential for tasks such as using computers, working in tourism related to running, and serving roles in the operations of other international social development NGOs

EXPANDING ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES TO EAST AFRICAN YOUTH THROUGH RUNNING
Running Across Borders

In the long-term, the educational facet of RAB’s operations will include specialized training for all our beneficiaries based on their interests as well as the employment opportunities we arrange for them.

Several friends of Running Across Borders who are qualified teachers have shown an interest in teaching athletes in Ethiopia and we are working with them to understand when they can best offer their time.

We are presently building a network of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) coaches who may be interested in the athletic and academic contributions our athletes could make to their universities.  Our connections are especially strong with NCAA Division III coaches, who consider the academic, athletic, and personal background of prospective students.
