Running Across Borders supports two categories of athletes

Developmental athletes

These athletes, when selected into our program, are predominantly recent graduates of secondary schools living in rural areas. We select them based on their performance in domestic competitions (generally regional level, as they do not usually have the resources to travel around the country for races) as well as their potential to continue developing and progressing. Additionally, they must agree to participate in all aspects of the Running Across Borders project, related to their development as athletes, their progression in education and opportunities to become working professionals.

Sub-Elite athletes

These athletes span a variety of age ranges, from school students to adults. They have means of at least basic support independent of Running Across Borders, either through work or family assistance or race prize money. Generally they train with established coaches and training groups or clubs. They are of an internationally competitive standard with times listed below giving an indication. Running Across Borders  negotiates entry for these athletes to domestic local, regional and national competitions as well as facilitate entry to international competitions, representing them when they travel abroad.  We help all our athletes achieve their athletic potential and maximise their financial capability.

Sub-Elite Men

Urga Ararisa Negewo (ETH) Marathon
